Copper Country Railroads and Mines
Rev. Herman Page is an Episcopal priest and a great interest in the
Copper Country and its railroad history. At one time he had been the
rector of Trinity Church in Houghton. He was a long-time resident of
northern Michigan and his father was the Episcopal bishop for this area
from 1942 to 1964. For several years he had a lake-side cottage near
Chassell. Rev. Page donated his collection of Copper Country materials
to the archives at Michigan Technological University in 1979. He now
lives in Topeka, Kansas, but is still active with the Soo Line Historical
and Technological Society (Letter, Rev. Herman Page to John P. DuLong,
4 January 1996).
The Page collection covers almost all the railroads of the Copper Country,
including the Duluth, South Shore, and Atlantic Railway (DSS&A),
the Mineral Range Railroad (MRRR), and the Hancock and Calumet Railroad
(H&CRR). He also collected information on the various mining companies
and some of the locations in the Copper Country. His collection consists
of clippings, maps, photographs, prints, diagrams, correspondence, and
postcards organized by railroads and mine sites. The Page Collection
can be found at:

Additions to the Page Collection
I want to thank Erik Nordberg, the director of the Copper Country Archives,
for sending me this list of materials added to the Page Collection in
an email dated 16 February 1999. I think we have to once again
thank Rev. Page for donating so much material on Copper Country railroading
for all of us to use. This is a substantial addition to what was already
an impressive collection.
